Hearts

This little picture I had of two girls in gingham dresses was just perfect for the bunny inspired piece that I thought of making, actually this song by Longfellow came to mind while putting this piece together, using the red hearts in this collage felt very homey, simple but just right. I will make this little collage into a charm along with the Cat Sisters, so watch for them in the shop next week.

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.

Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.

Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.

H.W. Longfellow

  1. Loving your recent collages and art work Kelly. You seem to have a real 'knack' for these. I think I first read that poem in 'The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady' and it was one that made an impact on me - those words ring true. Happy creating....
